Doctor, would be photographer. Interests; well-being of children, reducing inequity & travel – looking to join the dots ….
I work as a consultant paediatrician and I am a would be photographer with a range of interests including promoting the well-being of children and young people, reducing inequity, travel, reading and more!
I have been a paediatrician for over 20 years combining clinical work, with education and research and leadership roles and am now working part-time and do some additional voluntary roles.
I started travelling at 18 when I went to do a years voluntary work in South Africa in 1982, which included some hitch-hiking round southern Africa. I have been travelling ever since with a number of extending trips of up to 6 months and two more periods of voluntary work in Afghanistan in 1993 and 1998, in all totalling a further two years abroad and have now visited over 80 countries.
I had my first camera at primary school, a Kodak, instamatic 56X, which I still have! A few cameras later I now use a Sony a7RIII and always have a camera with me when travelling. Now I enjoy making photos of different genres, – travel, street, portrait and more recently social documentary, which I want to develop further.
